Dr. Ismail Serageldin is the first director of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina. He holds a BSc in Engineering from Cairo University and a masters degree and PhD from Harvard University. He was the vice president for environmental and social sustainable development and special programs at the World Bank. He has received 21 honorary doctorates.
Dr. Serageldin has written over 50 books and monographs and over 200 articles on several topics such as nurturing development, biotechnology and sustainability.
